Electrofusion welding is the most common welding technique for joining HDPE pipes. Electrofusion fittings with implanted metal coils is placed around two ends of pipes to be joined, and current is passed through the coils. Resistive heating of the coils melts small amounts of the pipe and fitting, and upon solidification, a joint is formed.

Barcode
All SUNPLAST electrofusion fittings come with barcode sticking on it. The installer just need to use welding machine scanner to scan the barcode, all welding parameter will be indicated in the welding machine automatically. Indicators
The pressure created by the expanding molten plastic in the jointing area inside the fitting during the electrofusion process will force out the indicator lugs. This is a visible sign that the necessary jointing pressure has been achieved.
Moulded-in welding parameters
Manual welding parameters are moulded into the body of all SUNPLAST electrofusion fittings. Information provided includes fitting size, material (PE80 or PE100), applicable pipe SDRs, weld parameters, and pressure ratings for gas and water applications.
Permanently marked batch number

*What’s electrofusion?
A: Electrofusion is the combination of two words - electro - implying the use of electricity and - fusion - the joining of plastic pipe therough the application of sufficient heat to create melting. Electrofusion differs from other heat fusion procedures due to the method by which heat is applied. In typical heat fusion welding, the pipe or fitting surfaces are heated through contact with an electrically heated coated heater plate. With electrofusion, the joining interface is heated internally by a resistive heating element supplied with an electric current which melts the appropriate locations inside the fitting while it is held in contact with the piping. When performing this joining process, the fusion welding times will vary depending on the fitting, the pipe material and the sizes being joined. The use of an electrofusion box which supplies the correct electrical current for the fitting is always required to complete the weld. Both electrofusion saddle fittings and couplers are available. Electrofusion saddles and electrofusion couplers for sizes up to around 630mm pipe are commonly available for polyethylene (PE) materials. PPR electrofusion fittings are also available.
*What’s electrofusion couplings used for?
A: Electrofusion Couplings are designed toconnect two ends of High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) piping together in an electrofusion welding method,where butt weld cannot be performed.
*How does electrofusion jointing work?
A: Electrofusion is a method of joining plastic pipes by using fittings with built-in electric heating elements, which are used to weld the joint together. The pipes to be joined are cleaned, inserted into the electrofusion fitting and a voltage, of typically 40V, is applied for a fixed time depending on the size of the pipe and fitting being installed. The built in heater coils then melt the inside of the fitting and the outside of the pipe wall, which melts together to produce a very strong homogeneous joint.

A: HDPE butt fusion fittings & HDPE electrofusion fittings, both are the most common used HDPE pipe fittings.
* Material Costs
The HDPE butt fusion fittings are regular much cheaper prices than HDPE electrofusion fittings. The HDPE pipes adopt butt fusion methods, no special coupler fittings needed , so less fittings will be requested, and much lower on material costs.
