*How does electrofusion jointing work?

A: Electrofusion is a method of joining plastic pipes by using fittings with built-in electric heating elements, which are used to weld the joint together. The pipes to be joined are cleaned, inserted into the electrofusion fitting and a voltage, of typically 40V, is applied for a fixed time depending on the size of the pipe and fitting being installed. The built in heater coils then melt the inside of the fitting and the outside of the pipe wall, which melts together to produce a very strong homogeneous joint.

* Can HDPE electrofusion coupler be used for welding the PPR pipe?

A: No, HDPE electrofusion coupler is manufactured & designed to weld to the HDPE pipeline only, NOT suitable for PPR pipe.

* What’s the HDPE electrofusion flange adaptor? What’s the difference between electrofusion flange adaptor & spigot flange adaptor?

A: HDPE electrofusion flange adaptor has placed copper coil of inside surface of one plain end of flange, which make it possible to connect to the HDPE pipe in a “electrofusion welding” method. The other side is flange face. By utilizing the steel backing rings, the electrofusion flange adaptor can be installed with all accessories that have same flange structure.

The regular spigot flange adaptor is normally installed with HDPE pipe in a “butt-welding” method. Long-spigot flange adaptor can also connect to HDPE pipe in a “electrofusion welding” method by using a electrofusion coupler.

So, the main difference between electrofusion flange adaptor & spigot flange adaptor is:

*How long will an electrofustion joint last?

A: If the pipe has been prepared in accordance with guidelines and the jointing process has been carried out correctly, by a competent installer, the HDPE electrofusion fitting is expected to last as long as the lifetime of the pipe system and a minimum of 50 years.
